Herald of His Coming – (Act Of The Apostles Part 5)

With great joy of Jesus I welcome you back to this forum. Without a doubt it is God who is working in us both to Will and to do according to His good pleasure and therefore, to Him the glory for the grace to be back on this forum. I must sincerely apologize for the break in the flow. I pray every day that as these demands increase, divine capacity within us will more than increase in Jesus name. As I look further in the Acts of the Apostles, I discovered yet another factor responsible for the great achievements of the mostly unlearned followers of the man of Calvary. This secret is what I call – Kingdom motivated prayers. Prayer, as we all know is a divinely ordained act of involving heaven in the affairs of humanity. However, I see an inclination in the groaning of the apostles, the type of which is not too common in our time – that is requesting God to enforce His will on earth. I see their prayer meetings focusing mainly on Matthew 6:10 – “Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.” “And to him they agreed: and when they had called the apostles, and beaten them, they commanded that they should not speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go. And they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name.” Acts 5:49-41. I guess if this were to happen to any of us in this generation on the account of the gospel, we will summon our prayer team to go to the mountain to call down fire and brimstone on every enemy of our souls!   Finally brethren, may I suggest that we begin to focus less on ourselves and more on God? If we must take over territories for God, it has to be settled first in the spiritual before it becomes manifest in the physical. This is the divine pattern and that is what we must do. Until I see you in the next edition, if Jesus tarry in His coming, I commit to the hands of the one who is able to keep all of us from falling and failing. I appreciate your time. Maranatha! Herald of His Coming – (Act Of The Apostles Part 4)

I bring you greetings in the precious name of the Lord Jesus Christ. May His grace continue to abide with and abound in us. As I brood further over the subject of intimacy with God as a prerequisite for power, that we began to consider in the last three editions, I just wonder why we are so restless in this generation even when the scripture prescribes that our only labor should be to enter His rest. Hebrews 4:11. “Let us labor therefore to enter into that rest …,” In Mark 6:31, Jesus told His disciples after a major spiritual activity …“And he said unto them, Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while: for there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat.” Though the people wanted Jesus at all times and by all means but, He would only make Himself available when He must have secured the means of addressing the people’s challenges from the presence of the Father. To be the best of my knowledge, our relevance is only in intimacy, so much so that as we receive from heaven, we deliver to our world. Am sure Jesus left with us enough example in this regard to emulate. He was first a deep man of the closet before being a public figure. Don’t make mistakes about it, this is not just applicable in ministry, but also in business and in the corporate world. We can be much successful in business and in the pursuit of our careers as we develop deeper intimacy with God. Brethren, I want to encourage us to get closer to God in intimacy because the closer we get to Him, the more of Him we become and the more of Him become, the more of His glory we carry! 2Corinthians 3:18. This was a major source of strength of the early apostles and it can still be ours too. Thank you for your time and I trust to see you in the next edition if Jesus tarry in His coming. Maranatha! Herald of His coming. (Acts of the Apostles – Part 2.)

I welcome you to this edition of The Herald of His coming. In the part one of this series, the Holy Spirit began to focus our attention on the acts that were behind the Apostles exploits. We began to look at the place of unity of the body and I like to share with you excerpts from an article by an unknown author I came across in the course of study on some of the reasons behind disunity of the body of Christ. ‘’For instance, the bible underscores the importance of “unity” and “oneness.” Unity with others is “good” and “pleasant” (Ps 133:1). Unity is absolutely essential because the church is the “body of Christ” (1 Cor 12:27), and a body cannot be in disunity or disharmony with itself. If disunity occurs, it essentially ceases to be a body and becomes a disjointed group of individuals. Jesus’ plan for His church is people unified in the faith. His plans are for a body and not a group of bodies. The secret to unity begins with how we view ourselves within the body and how we view others. The key verse that addresses this is Phil 2:3: “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves.” All disunity in a church can be traced back to the simple truth that too often we act selfishly and consider ourselves better than others. Paul goes on to explain further in the following verse: “Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.” Sadly, churches that experience disunity and are in conflict and turmoil are generally filled with people looking to their own needs, their own desires, and their own ambitions. Such behavior is characteristic of unbelievers, not those with the mind of Christ. Worldliness, not godliness, is the hallmark of the dis unified body of Christ, as Paul reminded the Corinthians: “For you are yet carnal. For in that there is among you envyings and strife and divisions, are you not carnal, and do you not walk according to men?” (1 Cor 3:3). Does these things sound familiar? This, I believe, calls for some serious and critical thinking. But Paul tells us that we are to consider others’ needs before our own in all modesty, humility and lowliness of mind. We are to “be completely humble and gentle; being patient, bearing with one another in love” (Eph 4:2). A church filled with such people cannot help but have peace, unity and harmony. The truly humble person sees his own faults in light of the perfections of Christ; he does not seek to see the faults of others, but when he does, he speaks the truth in love and desires their sanctification so they will be built up in the image of Christ. He sees his own heart and the corruption that lies hidden there, along with impure motives and evil ambitions. But he does not seek to take notice of the errors, defects, and follies of others. Most importantly, as Christians, we are to see one another in the light of the Cross – Fellow Christians for whom Christ died a horrible and painful death so that He might exchange His righteous perfection for their sin (2 Cor 5:21). How can we not extend to them the love, compassion, and grace of our heavenly Father? How can we demean, criticize, and defame those covered with the precious blood of Christ? Were we not slaves to sin when He called us, hopelessly lost, dead in our own transgressions and sins (Eph 2:1)? But we are now slaves of Christ, slaves to righteousness, and as slaves of the Master, the task before us is not to quarrel and demand our needs be met but to reflect His grace and love to those who are also His by His mercy. A church full of such people enjoying their “common salvation” will be a true, biblical church unified in, and earnestly contending for, the “faith once delivered to the saints” (Jude 1:3).’’ Beloved, are you by any means entrusted with the privilege of leadership in the body at whatever level in your corner of the world, I plead with you to vigorously pursue the unity of the body. Yes, there are natural divides such as language, culture, colors and norms in the world but, the unity of the body transcends all such natural divides. It is time for us to rise above the mundane and move to perfection. Until then, our ability to adequately occupy for the master remains an illusion. I like to pause here and hope to see you in the next edition. Until then, keep looking up eagerly for the appearance of the son of the living God. Maranatha! Your companion in the race – Ezekiel Oni

Herald of His coming (Understanding the times – Part 2)

Greetings in the precious name of our Lord and Savior – Jesus Christ. Heaven and earth may pass away but not a jot or a title of God’s words shall go unfulfilled. Hence, the truth that Jesus Christ is coming back is sacrosanct and, therefore, as expectant pilgrims, we should do all within our power to ensure we both hasten the consummation of this expectation and are not caught napping on its crystallization. Consequently we have been looking at the necessity of understanding the times. You will recall that in the last edition we considered the fact that it is an age of relativism, where everything all depend on prevailing circumstances. Again, what time is it? It is an Information Age: It is an information rather than a revelation age. Information, defined as a message received and understood, by its very nature is powerful because it has capacity to either inform, reform or deform the mind. Just as we all rightly know, every man is a reflection of his mind. For instance, the bible says in Proverbs 23:7 that a man is exactly what he thinks (my own reflections). The greatest battle ever, is the battle of the mind. Unfortunately, this is where the spirit of the times has targeted to engage. While God through His Holy Spirit is calling for our attention, the spirit of the age is also, through various means, struggling for our attention. I was in a public place sometimes ago and, I was amazed at how everybody got glued to their hand devices checking up on one thing or the other on the net. As I sat down watching, the question that kept ringing in my mind was, how well and best can God reach these minds already preoccupied with every other thing, that appeal to the flesh, but God! To a large extent, in my opinion, a large proportion of these information are designed and targeted to distort and impair the free flow of the gospel in the heart of men. Because they appeal to the flesh, they therefore, command attention of men for a long time – have you observed that you hardly get distracted whenever you are reading through an ‘interesting’ post on your device? The implication of this is that, moments of meditation on the scriptures have shrunk very significantly for some unwary pilgrim. Productive thoughts have diminished with cheap availability of scraps that feed the flesh. Consequently, in times like these, what should be the attitude of the rightly focused believer?  I opine, and that very strongly, that as pilgrims, we should be selective about what we feed our minds on. In Philippians 4:8, the bible says “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” Beloved, I believe if you can allow God to keep your mind sane at this time, I am sure you can as well keep your life save for eternity. The glory is indeed ahead and we strive to stay on course. Happy congress and wishing you Merry Christmas and a happy New Year all in advance. I like to pause here at this time and trust God to be with you again in the next edition, if Jesus tarry in His coming. Until then, God bless you and thanks for your time. Maranatha! Your companion in the race – EZEKIEL ONI.
